Gateway Exam

MATH131                                                                 

            The prerequisite for MATH132 is a grade of C or better in MATH 131 (or HONR131). A grade of C or better in MATH131 requires that the student pass a "gateway" exam on differentiation techniques.  The exam consists of seven problems, six of which must be solved correctly within 20 minutes, using paper and pencil only.

 

MATH 132                                                                

            One of the prerequisites for MATH231 is a grade of D or better in MATH132 (or HONR132). A grade of D or better in MATH132 requires that the student pass a "gateway" exam on integration techniques.  The exam consists of seven problems, six of which must be solved correctly within 25 minutes, using paper and pencil only.

                                                                    

Gateway exams are given several times per week, beginning Wednesday, September 16, and ending Tuesday, December 8, according to the following schedule. If you cannot attend any of these sessions you should speak with your instructor immediately. You may take an exam as often as necessary, but only once during each exam period.

You need to begin an exam at least 20 (resp. 25) minutes before the end of the exam period.

RULES                                                                

           

1.      Closed books and notes; no calculators. Just paper and pencil.

2.      Mark your answers clearly.

3.      Use parentheses correctly.

4.      Make reasonable simplifications. (Examples:    ,  ,  ,  …. )

5.      In MATH132, do not forget the constant in indefinite integral problems.

   An antiderivative of    is    . 

 6.     Within the time allotted, return the exam in person to the proctor, whether it is completed or not.

7.      Do not record or keep any information about the exam problems.

 

 

The exams are normally graded within one school day. You are invited to discuss your exam paper with your instructor who will retain it for the remainder of the semester.
