ARCHIVES (1977-2004) - in reverse chronological order
The SEAS-SIAM was formed in 1977 to serve as a link among scientists,
engineers, applied mathematicians and graduate students
in the southeast and with SIAM. States included in the section are
Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and
Tennessee.
Membership
is open to any interested person, including non-SIAM members. The main
activity of the SEAS-SIAM is its annual meeting which contains a
full program of invited and contributed talks, including student
presentations. Every two years (since 1996), the annual meeting is held
in conjunction with a SIAM Student Conference.

The section passed a resolution offered by member E. P. Miles at the
1982 meeting. The resolution, which expressed the concern for the
condition of pre-college mathematics and science education, was
printed in the June 1982 newsletter. Dr. E. P. Miles of FSU, Dr. William
F. Ames of Georgia Tech., Dr. James Buckley of UA-Birmingham, Dr. John
Bradley of UT and Dr. John Fulton of Clemson (one from each state in
the section) had agreed to try to find the best route to bring
this issue before the public and their state officials.
