Computer Science Program Mission

The mission of the B.S. program in Computer Science is to educate computer science professionals who are prepared to enter and maintain careers in government or industry and to pursue graduate studies in computer science.

Computer Science Program Objectives

Within five years of graduation, alumni of the B.S. program in Computer Science should be:

Objective 1:  Conducting successful careers in computer science disciplines and/or pursuing graduate study in computer science.

Objective 2:  Demonstrating life-long learning skills and adapting to emerging markets and technologies.

Objective 3:  Embracing high personal and professional standards of conduct, citizenship, and service.

Computer Science Program Outcomes

Outcome 1:  Fundamental Knowledge
A graduate has knowledge of the fundamental concepts of computer science.

Outcome 2:  Technical Skills
A graduate can use modern computer science environments and tools that are necessary for professional practice.

Outcome 3:  Problem Solving Skills
A graduate can identify, formulate and solve problems using basic computer science techniques and methodologies.

Outcome 4:  Communication Skills
A graduate can effectively express ideas both verbally and in writing.

Outcome 5:  Investigative Skills
A graduate can search out and evaluate technical literature.

Outcome 6:  Work Skills
A graduate can work both independently and as part of a team.

Outcome 7:  Principled Professionalism
A graduate understands the professional and ethical responsibilities of a computer scientist as well as the societal impact of computer science.
